Puerto Rico 2014

A brutal winter and cheap airfare provided great motivation to escape Wisconsin. Destination Puerto Rico!

We began our trip with a couple days in beautiful San Juan.

We were a 45 minute walk from our rental to two Spanish castles.

San Cristobal was built by the Spanish to defend against land attacks, while El Morro was built to defend the harbor.

Our trip timed up with Puerto Rico's version of Mardi Gras called the San Sebastian Festival.  It was a lot of fun. There was great food, music and dancing. 

Again, the main purpose of this trip was to soak up as much sun as possible.  We went through lots of sunscreen.

It's hard to pass up on Pina Coladas. 

Building (or destroying?) a sand castle.

Never take a nap while somebody is building a sand castle.

But you can take a nap here.

We stayed on the quiet southwestern corner of Puerto Rico near Cabo Rojo.

The "lighthouse" beach provided big waves.
