Cochem, Germany

In the Spring, I visited Germany and Austria with my mom and dad. We began our trip taking boat rides down the Rhine and Mosel Rivers. The rivers are on the western side of Germany. The banks are covered with vineyards that produce grapes for wine. We stayed in a little town for a few days on the Mosel River called Cochem. Cochem had a very cool castle that looked down on the town.

The first day we had to stay awake as long as possible to get used to the 7 hour time difference. While eating pizza for dinner, I finally fell down the bunny hole. The next day I was rarin' to go. Luckily for me, Germany had many spiel platzes.

We took a short train ride that followed the Mosel River to the city of Trier. Trier is the oldest city in Germany. It is just a stone's throw from the micro country of Luxembourg. Trier was the western capitol of the Roman Empire. Trier was once surrounded by a large stone wall. Most of the wall is gone, but the gate to the city still stands.

The Romans abandoned Trier more than 1,700 years ago, but Emperor Constantine left behind his LEFT foot. He must have been in a hurry.

Rick Steves' Europe

Rumor has it that friends and relatives *think* they saw us on Rick Steves' Europe. The answer is "yes, that is us". The show is from the 2010-11 television season. The show in particular is titled Andalucía, Gibraltar and Tangier. It must be re-running a lot of late.


We are on camera on the segment of the show dealing with Tangier, Morocco. We played the part of the clueless day-trippers.
